Uber vs. Lyft – Which is better?

Chances are if you’re a 20-something-year-old, you’ve taken both Uber and Lyft.

Over the last several years, I’ve taken Lyft and Uber more times than I can count. Because really, drinking and driving is SO NOT worth it.

So, when it comes down to it, which one is better?

Let’s start out with – what would make the service better? For starters, price. And another thing that is huge is the driver themself. And of course, if the service is even available.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to have both is price. Each has different pricing calculations, so it definitely varies on which city you live in or are visiting.

In one city, Uber might be a little cheaper. But in another, Lyft might be cheaper.  I always suggest checking both for the price of each trip. It can vary based on traffic, the car you choose, and the time of day you are choosing. In my opinion, Lyft is almost always cheaper.

In terms of availability, I have found that Uber tends to have more drivers available in a lot more locations. That could be because Uber was started before Lyft, so they do have that advantage going for them.

Car options

Uber also has more choices in the types of car, whether its the economy option: Uber X, Uber XL and select. Then they have Premium options which include black and SUV. I’m pretty sure they’re even offering some kind of plane or helicopter service too, but I’m no Christian Grey so I doubt I’ll use that.

Lyft does have options too though. Lyft is distinguished by regular Lyft, Plus, Premier, Lux and Lux SUV.

Customer Service

One thing that stands out amongst the two for me is customer service. I have always had better customer service with Lyft.

The Lyft drivers seem to be a lot friendlier in my eyes.

Again, you never know what driver you are going to get or if the service will be available in certain cities, so it’s probably best to keep both apps.

However, after several years of having both, if I have to pick one — I’m going with Lyft!
