Pick one: Tom Brady or Bill Belichick?

With all the drama going on inside the New England Patriots organization, there’s a question that begs to be asked.

Let’s say you’re the Patriots. You have to choose what’s best right now moving forward for the team. Who do you pick: Tom Brady or Bill Belichick?

If you even think this is a valid question, then you are not the Pats fan you claim to be and we know exactly who you are. Yes, you — kissing your Brady life size cardboard cutout. We see you.

The answer is Belichick. Hands down. No questions asked.

That doesn’t mean Brady isn’t a good quarterback. Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. But has he peaked?

Quite possibly. And if you really think he hasn’t, you know it’s coming soon. And a rapid decline will follow.

The Pats superstar may still be a total hunk, but let’s not forget, he is 40 years old. FORTY. He’s the oldest quarterback in the league!

And you’re going to pick him over one of the greatest coaches of all time with plenty left in the tank? Grow up Count Chocula.

No matter how good you are out there on the field, age is serious problem that will catch up to you quick — even if you’re Tom Brady. A 40-year-old body simply can’t continue to take a beating like a 20-year-old body.

Hell, Brady is even dealing with a hand injury as we speak that he received before the AFC Championship game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On the other hand (no pun intended), it could certainly be argued that Belichick is currently in his prime after the turnaround he performed with this season’s team.

The Patriots organization didn’t like Belichick’s idea to toss what they thought was their most prized possession (Brady) to the side and move forward with Jimmy Garoppolo.

So, they “overruled” Belichick. In doing so they made a huge, crucial error. Actually, they made two huge errors.

1. They traded away Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers. Like, c’mon man.

2. They mixed up who their most prized possession truly was.

The organization was so worried about stepping on Brady’s toes, they never stopped to think — err, HELLO — Bill Belichick is your most prized possession!

DUH.

Well, maybe after seeing how fire Garoppolo was for the 49ers this season, after they traded him away, they figured that out. But as JoJo says, “It’s just too little too late.”

Also can we pause. How can you trade away this beautiful human being?

Cue the angels singing hallelujah.

But back to Beli.

When Belichick goes, so do the coordinators. Actually, the coordinators are already sayonara. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia (who, did you know, used to be a freakin’ rocket scientist?!) is going to the Detroit Lions as head coach. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels accepted the head coaching position for the Indianapolis Colts.

So, to say the Patriots made a catastrophic mistake stepping on Belichick’s toes would be an understatement.

But by all means — you, now clinging to your Brady cutout for dear life — continue to tell us how many solid years Brady has left in him.

Also, what’s a Pats team look like without Belichick? And in a few years, what’s a Pats team without Belichick AND Brady look like? And you thought me questioning Brady’s years left was scary…
