Leah Still, Still Strong

By now, anyone that watches the NFL knows who Leah Still is.

That adorable, courageous 5-year old diva fighter. And selfie princess, of course. Leah Still is the daughter of the Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle, Devon Still. One year ago, Devon & Leah were given the devastating news that Leah was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma and a 50/50 chance to live.

(And if you didn’t know who she was, why don’t you go put yourself to some good use and go watch some ESPN, any news channel or you know, ANYTHING.)

And what an appropriate time to talk about Devon and Leah, being that we just celebrated Fathers Day Sunday. In a phone interview with ESPN on Sunday, Devon said,

“Every day for me is like a Fathers Day because I’m able to wake up and spend time with my daughter. There was a point in time where I didn’t know how long I had to spend with my daughter so just being able to be blessed with another Fathers Day to spend with her, and being able to be a father to such a strong and courageous little girl, it means a lot to me.”

In March, Leah and Devon found out that Leah’s cancer had gone into remission. After battling for a year with her Father by her side, Leah got to come home from the hospital on Monday! All you tear jerkers out there, LET THE RIVER FLOW. Talk about the perfect Fathers Day gift.

To top it off, back in November the Bengals announced that they would donate all proceeds from the sales of Devon Still’s jersey to pediatric cancer research. All of which amounted to over $1.2 million.   NO BIG DEAL. Father of the year? I think so.

Well actually, now that I mention it, Devon and Leah will be presented at the ESPY’s next month with the Perseverance Award. ONCE AGAIN, NO BIG DEAL & LET THE RIVER FLOW. Or you know, just open the floodgates.

And if you haven’t already, you have to check out his Instagram to truly see Leah’s addictive, go-getter personality.

The lyrics in the song, “The Fighter”, by Gym Class Heroes remind me of Leah. Check out these lyrics & listen to the song—you know you feel it.

“Give em hell, turn their heads
Gonna live life ’til we’re dead.
Give me scars, give me pain
Then they’ll say to me, say to me, say to me
There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter
Here comes the fighter
That’s what they’ll say to me, say to me, say to me,
This one’s a fighter
‘Til the referee rings the bell
‘Til both ya eyes start to swell
‘Til the crowd goes home,
What we gonna do kid?”
