12 first date ideas that are perfect for anyone
Guys let’s be honest here, a first date can be nerve racking!
Picking an idea is almost like picking a nail color at the salon or trying to get through Times Square during the holiday season.
A good first date idea sets the scene to break the ice and help you make a connection with someone. But why do first dates seem to be an endless cycle of grabbing drinks at bars we’ve been to a million times before?
B O R I N G.
Don’t get me wrong, we love our booze. But after a while, it can be a bit tedious waking up with a hangover after a night of hanging out with someone who couldn’t hold your attention for longer than 10 whole seconds. It’s a waste of time AND good booze and we don’t want to be wasteful, kiddies.
Dating should be fun!
But coming up with new date ideas is harder than it seems! So I’ve come up with 12 fly ideas that’ll get you and your possible new bae into some fun and out of your comfort zones.
At the very least, the experience will provide some PIPING HOT tea when you report to your friends in the group chat.
1. Go see a game!
Whether it be professional, college or even reliving the high school glory days, going to a sporting event is always a great time for a first date! Something about hot dogs, beers and foam fingers really bring out your inner Serena Williams. Timeouts and inning breaks are also perfect for getting to know your bae better.
2. Brewery/Winery Tour
Love booze? Why not learn about it AND drink at the same time!? It’s fun and exciting and you can always wow your friends with your newfound knowledge. Most places also offer unlimited drinking while on the tours too — just in case your date is boring as hell. #escapeclause
What better way to show someone who you really are by bringing out your inner child? Video games are always a great time and it’s a sure way to see if your bae can handle your competitive side.
4. People watch
Bare with me — I know this may sound boring, but let me set the scene for you… You’re broke (me af) and your date is also broke because he just had to bail his cousin out of jail for public urination after the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl (people I literally said “bare with me.”) So you guys head to a busy area — mall, train station, downtown area — enjoy the sites, give people random backstories and get to know each other.
Bowling may be totally cliche, but it really is always a goodie! Who doesn’t love to bowl?! Even if you’re not that great at it, it still makes for a great story. Plus, if you go during the week, you’ll probably find some pretty sweet deals on shoes, drinks and food.
6. Trivia Night
Who doesn’t love trivia?! I know — we’re back at the bar again, BUT its a bar with a twist. You can even make it a group date! It takes pressure off going on a solo date and you learn something too, whether it be the capital of Vermont or learning that you’ll never go on a date with the guy again.
7. See live music
You don’t have to splurge on Coachella or Tomorrowland tickets to enjoy amazing artists. Lots of bars have jazz nights and showcase great local musicians. If you’re not sure where to find ‘em, try resources like Yelp, Time Out, and the arts section of the local newspapers.
8. Amusement park
I know it seems like it’s only catered to teenage birthday parties, but theme parks are amazing! The rides are actually pretty fun, and big roller coaster drops provide the perfect opportunity to initiate a little hand holding. Plus, nothing says romance like funnel cake.
They’ve got museums for everything now, so why not check one out with your potential babe! There’s the Museum of Broken Relationships in Los Angeles, Cancún’s Underwater Museum, and, if you’re feeling especially frisky, there’s the Museum of Sex in NYC.
10. Specialty bar
If you are INSISTENT on going to a bar (yes, i know — it’s literally me at this point), at least make it an interesting and unique one! Maybe it’s themed bar or you can make your own drinks. Just find something that will take grabbing drinks to a whole new level.
11. Driving range/batting cage
TopGolf has truly turned this athletic activity upside down in the best way, but you could even play it old school and find local ranges or cages to use. It’s also a great way to get close to your potential boo.
Totally underrated, but a picnic is always a great option! You pack the main course and he packs the sides, or vice versa. A picnic is always an adorable and money-saving option to snuggle up to your potential boo and get to know each other better.
Alright — no excuses now! Get your booty out there and have some fun!
